Charitable giving, Donate your cell phone
Select one of our charitable programs, or give on behalf of your own
Cell phones contain toxic metals that can pollute the environment and threaten our health. When recycled responsibly, the metals can be put back into circulation, decreasing the need for new metal mining.
Make Earth Day every day! You can recycle your old cell phone for free from the comfort of your own home today.
- Choose the organization you would like to support. We suggest support our troops or cure breast cancer
- Print a postage-paid USPS mailing label
- Send in your cell phone
- How do I donate to a charity or organization that isn't listed?
- The best way to donate to an organization not listed is to recommend that they start a ReCellular for their organization. But please do consider donating on behalf of our troops or to cure breast cancer
- Who can participate in this program?
- Anyone can donate online but only Non profit, educational and governmental organizations wishing to raise funds may become program participants.
- What cell phones do you accept?
- There are hundreds of models of cell phones that still carry value. Keep in mind that the market for used cell phones is volatile. But we accept donations of any phone or device. We will do our best with whatever you can give.
- How much will be paid to my selected charity for every item I donate?
- Depending on the model and condition of each item we will donate a % of market value for every item to be refurbished, and a flat donation amount for every item that is recycled. Due to the changing conditions of our vendors, markets and pricing, these amounts change from week to week.
- What types of phones can be donated?
- All makes and models of cellular phone are welcomed. Working condition is not an issue. Our primary goal is simply diverting these devices from ending up in landfills where they can harm the environment. That is why we accept all cell phones in all conditions.
- What about my phone's charger and other accessories?
- ReCellular accepts the phone itself and its corresponding battery. At this time we do not make any donation for accessories received, however we will dispose of them in a environmentally friendly way.
- What types of PDA's, Palm Pilots and digital cameras can be donated?
- As with cell phones, ReCellular accepts all makes and models of PDA's, Palm Pilots and digital cameras. Working condition does not matter.
- Who may participate in the ReCellular program?
- The short answer is everyone! The ReCellular program is open to any person, corporation or government group wishing to donate used cell phones, PDA's and digital cameras.
- For tax purposes, how do I determine the value of my donated phone?
- To get an approximation of your phone's value, start by locating your purchase receipt to determine the purchase price and date of purchase. That cost then depreciates at 20% to 30% per year. PDAs, Palm Pilots and digital cameras can be assessed in a similar fashion. Please contact your accountant or tax professional for an exact figure for claiming it on your taxes.
- Is there any chance that I will get phone bills after donating my phone?
- Absolutely not. Just deactivate the service before you donate the phone. ReCellular cannot be responsible for any activated phones that are donated. Furthermore, ReCellular cannot locate and send back any donated item. However, the recycling and refurbishment processes usually requires the erasing of all memory and software from your phone.
- Do I need to worry about airtime if I donate my phone and it is still activated by mistake?
- Please take all the steps necessary to make sure your cell phone is deactivated. We can not return any wireless products for recycling once they are donated.
